Concluding Thoughts

I've been playing with a John Henry using paper scriptures to battle someone on their phone doing a scripture chase as a potential gag off and on for ten years now. Today's post probably came out of those ruminations.

Hasten the Work

Clever missionaries. I just hope they are wearing comfortable shoes.

Ten Commandment Clickbait

Thank heavens there was no such thing as clickbait when Moses descended Sinai. Today's comic corresponds to this week's Come, Follow Me lesson. You're welcome!

Cockroaches

Every missionary has to deal with a little bit of gross--regardless of where you serve. Most of that gross is self-inflicted. And if it is not you, it will definitely be your companion.

Giant Cultural Hall

I've written plenty about BYU athletics on this blog over the years, but my true sports passion is easily Utah Jazz basketball. I've had an unhealthy obsession with that team since the Stockton and Malone days.* And this season has probably been the second most frustrating of my life.** On Saturday, the playoffs start for my guys. Today's comic is my attempt to send all the good vibes to the Jazz.

*For those not versed in Jazz lore, John Stockton and Karl Malone were longtime teammates who played together on the Utah Jazz from the mid 80s to the mid 00s--an unprecedented 18 seasons!

**The 2010-2011 season saw long-time Jazz coach Jerry Sloan retire and then, a short time later, the trade of franchise cornerstone Deron Williams. It was bad.

Bible Bashing

I didn't get into much Bible bashing as a missionary. Honestly, I was always more interested in exploring the scriptures of the restoration than identifying verses in the New and Old Testament I could use in an argument over doctrine. I also thought it was terribly unfair that any scriptural argument I got into was done in the other person's native tongue while I was struggling to speak a second language. Finally, I never saw a use for it. I realized rather quickly if we were in a fight, I wasn't changing any minds no matter how well-reasoned my argument might be.*

*This seems especially true in matters of politics today as party affiliation has become more and more a central part of people's identity.

Liahona

So that's why it's named the Liahona. (If only the Liahona had a comics page--this would be a shoe-in for publication!)

Iron Stomach

Lined pockets is such a good idea, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't teach it in the MTC.

Wasn't General Conference great? If you haven't yet, be sure to check out Kevin Beckstrom's Conference notes.
