Church Services and Hamburgers

It is no exaggeration to state that I ate more McDonald's food the two years I spent in Slovenija than all the years since. I suppose that now that I'm home, I don't need the Golden Arches to feel at home.

  1. I was in Austria in 1985 when the first McDonalds came to that country. The fast-food joint opened to much fanfare, but we all soon realized a major culture clash on day 1. The restaurant had been built with a drive-through window but no one was driving up. They simply stood in a line at the outdoor window like they were used to doing at their local bratwurst stands. It tooks weeks of education before people finally got the concept.
