For Those of You Who Don't Know Me

The whole "for those of you who don't know me..." sacrament meeting talk is a relatively new crutch. Why in my day, we start each youth talk with a definition from Webster's Dictionary, and we liked it! Despite it's short lifespan, I can confidently say that "for those of you who don't know me" is my least favorite rote intro in the Church.

  1. After the definition from Webster's Dictionary, we would then read what Bruce R. McConkie said in "Mormon Doctrine", and conclude with a poem from "Especially for Mormons". It was the formula for every youth talk.

Recently, one youth started with, "For those who don't know me, my name is John Johnson. For those who do know me, my name is still John Johnson." I appreciated his literal approach!

    1. "For those of you who'd like to know me better, here's my number" *wink wink*

    2. This is good stuff. I never had a copy of "Especially for Mormons" (or a cassette of "Saturday's Warrior"), I considered myself a rebel.
