Happy New Year

One of the scariest experiences on my mission was stepping outside the church house after a branch New Year's Eve party. The missionaries in our mission were given special permission from our mission president to stay up past curfew that night. We did and upon leaving the meetinghouse, my companion and I experienced something close to a war zone. Slovenia had earned it's independence from Yugoslavia a few short years earlier and while I can't be sure, I suspect a bunch of leftover ammunition was fired off early that morning of January 1, 1995.

Fishers of Men

As 2012 comes to a close, I'll be celebrating four years on the web! Once again, I'd like to thank all of my readers for making this such a fun project. I'd also like to acknowledge fellow Mormon Cartoonist and friend Kevin Beckstrom. His output of a post per day puts mine to shame.

In fact, today's gag is dedicated to Kevin, since I subconsciously stole it from him. It wasn't until long after I drew it that I stumbled upon it again on his website and realized that the reason it came to me fully formed was because I read it somewhere before. It's sat on my hard drive for half a year now while I've wondered what to do with it. In the spirit of an end-of-the-year clearance, I'm posting it today.

Thanks, Kevin.

Santa Claus: Home Teacher Extraordinaire!

I've given Santa Claus grief on this blog before for his tithing and his tendency to abuse his Elders Quorum, so let me give credit where it's due: The guy is a Home Teacher super star! Shoot, not only can his ward count 100 percent home teaching for the month of December based on his efforts, but every ward in the world should be able to do the same!

Christmas Treats

Some ideas are best unexplored.

Temple Square Lights

The two hours or so I spend hanging Christmas lights are about the longest couple of hours I experience each year. I am in awe, then, of the work done at places like Temple Square. I can't begin to imagine the man hours that go into a project like that.

Moving Sisters 3

Look at the missionaries in today's strips. This is about as ugly a district as you'll ever see.

Babylonian Circus

Working on this, I started thinking of what a circus of scripture heroes might look like. Of course, you'd have no shortage of fortune tellers at your disposal; while Samuel the Lamanite would probably be an awesome acrobat and Samson could out strong man anyone.

Of course for today's gag to work, it helps that Daniel and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were contemporaries in ancient Babylon.

Moving Sisters 2

I loved the sister missionaries in my mission. They were able to nurture and teach in a way that the Elders never could. But, they had twice the luggage at four times the weight than the Elders did.
