Happy New Year

One of the scariest experiences on my mission was stepping outside the church house after a branch New Year's Eve party. The missionaries in our mission were given special permission from our mission president to stay up past curfew that night. We did and upon leaving the meetinghouse, my companion and I experienced something close to a war zone. Slovenia had earned it's independence from Yugoslavia a few short years earlier and while I can't be sure, I suspect a bunch of leftover ammunition was fired off early that morning of January 1, 1995.

(Here's a first, today's strip is the same one featured on deseretnews.com.)

  1. I served my mission in Mexico. We were supposed to be in our apartments by 6:00 p.m. It seems that people took to shooting guns in the air on New Year's Eve there, and with the amount of alcohol that was being consumed, there were several men who couldn't wait until midnight.

    1. Six o'clock and you still feared for your life?! You're story definitely tops mine.
