Clickbait

I like internet traffic as much as the next guy, but heaven help me if I ever resort to clickbait. Sure it works (I can't be the only one to click on one of those highly enticing titles), but it usually leaves the reader feeling let down by the poor payoff.

I can't help but wonder how effective clickbait might be with a sacrament meeting talk: I'm sure you'll have everyone's attention to begin, but you risk watching half the congregation walking out midway through when they realize how shallow and empty the body of your talk really is.

  1. By the way, there is no way in the world that the real Brother Kirby would engage in such a disingenuous practice as clickbaiting. (Nor would he have to: his talks are always highly edifying and entertaining.)

  2. I'm a sucker for clickbait -- especially those "What does ____ tell about you." I'm also a sucker for your fabulous cartoons! Thanks so much for your wit and wisdom which brightens my life.

  3. Thanks for the kind comments. But perhaps I should consider this approach for my next talk. Bro. Kirby

  5. A catchy title or opening is one thing, but the rest of the presentation needs to live up to it. If people enjoy your remarks, they are more likely to remember what you had to say.
