No Joke

This is why every politician worth his salt has on retainer amid all his or her speechwriters at least one joke writer.

(Alas, I can't take credit for this brilliant idea of a gag. I heard it nearly fully formed in an early-morning stake priesthood meeting from some youth from another ward. I wish I knew who to credit it to, but like I said it was early-morning and I wasn't quite that awake yet.)

  1. Reminds me of a time when I was invited to speak to a meeting of missionaries as a recent convert... I arrived to find them engaged in an icebreaker activity that involved standing up and telling jokes.

It was really evil to ask me to give my testimony right after a load of stand-up :)

    1. It's amazing how well our missionary efforts work when you remember just how young (and often immature) our missionary force is.

    2. Just so. I recall the surprise at my very first lesson that I was being taught by 2 young men whose combined age was less than mine... and I was supposed to call them 'Elder' :)
