Basketball Hops

Shortly before I arrived in Slovenia as a missionary, there was a missionary who returned home to play college ball. He was so good that, reportedly, he was recruited to join the national team after a coach saw him playing a pickup game. I can't verify the veracity of that story, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen today. In the most recent Summer Olympic Games, Slovenia finished fourth--just missing out on a medal.*

*Slovenia has already got seven medals in the ongoing Winter Olympic Games. (Not bad for a country with a total population of 2.1 million!)

Ward Baller

There is an important message in today's comic strip: basketball is pain. (Especially if you are a fan of the Utah Jazz.)

One on One

It seems a little unfair that these two are playing winners out, doesn't it? Furthermore, if they are playing one-on-one street ball, chances are each basket is worth one point (threes are worth two). Making this an even more lopsided game than previously thought.

It's wholly appropriate that I run this strip on the same day as the NCAA national basketball finals. Go, fight, win!

Just think how much more serious some ward basketball players would take ward ball if they only knew that their cumulative win/loss record counted in the final judgement.

Just kidding, most ward basketball players already play like their play counts towards their very exaltation.*

*Personally, I'm likely slotted for the telestial kingdom (darn 3rd Ward!).
