Christmas Afternoon

I hope you'll excuse the tardiness in posting this morning's post. It was somewhat of a challenge getting to the computer at all this morning.

Here's a little something extra for Christmas. In the proud tradition of Mad Magazine and "Weird Al" Yankovic, here's our special LDS-themed "12 Days of Christmas" parody.

Christmas Morning

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Missionary Christmas

Elder Van Dyke's experience is much like my own. And you know what? I loved it.

Santa's Primary Class

Staffing the primary in the North Pole 1st ward has got to be a breeze. Santa can handle the most unruly of classes and sharing time is always well behaved thanks to the specially called elf on the shelf.

Alert Tracting

As I was looking through my archives, I realized I had never featured today's strip on this blog--despite the fact that it's been featured in the Deseret News (hence the use of color). Anyway, I hope you enjoy this one. It's from the very early days of Elder Van Dyke's mission.

Dodgeball with a Prophet

Over the years I've done a number of these kid prophet gags. I'm rather fond of them. In fact, for a little while I toyed with the idea of spinning this one into a serialized comic book.* Apparently, I'm not the only one who likes them, today's gag is featured in the December issue of the New Era.

*It would have been kind of like the Muppet Babies for the religious set. The challenge with a comic book set at the preschool of the prophets is finding the conflict. Which scripture hero do I turn into the bully? And if I make someone a mischief maker, is that sacrilegious?

Language Problem

Thanks to all of you who've purchased the Book of Mormon Adventure app. I hope you enjoy it.

As a foreign speaking missionary, I can definitely relate to Elder Van Dyke in today's strip.

Introducing the Book of Mormon Adventure App!

Today the Book of Mormon Adventure app premiered on the Apple App Store. I am super excited about the fruition of this project that has been in the works for years now. It's an interactive storybook that highlights how kids can liken the stories from the Book of Mormon in their own lives. The app stars a brother and sister duo named Connor and Lily and follows 13 Book of Mormon events and a corresponding 13 events in their lives as they learn gospel truths.

Each of the 26 pages in the app includes cleaver poem that highlights the quality we can emulate from some Book of Mormon heroes and has 10 items that don't belong. Kids playing the game must find all ten objects to pass a page. If your children like it a fraction as my kids do, you'll love it!

Big, big thanks to Hilton Campbell who started the coding for the app and Joshua Howland from Apps by Lift who finished it. They've done amazing work.

This one has been a lot of fun for me to draw. I hope you'll like it too!

Here's the link.

Gluten-Free Manna

Perhaps this lady should trade dieting tips with this one.

Companionship Problems

Most, if not all, missionaries will have a companion for whom the missionary will feel as much apart from as the sisters do in today's strip. It's a credit to mission presidents everywhere that they don't immediately separate these companionships. As unpleasant as such companionships may be, missionaries can learn a lot from working through such difficult relationships.
