Backpack

When I was growing up, there was only one way to carry a backpack: slung over one shoulder like you didn't care if it was there or not (or if you developed scoliosis). Today's kids all wear backpacks carefully strapped to both shoulders. They also don's seem to believe in lockers anymore as they haul all their belongings all the time. In this regard, they remind me of Elder Green--Elder Van Dyke's companion in today's strip.

That means you can get the Old Testament Come, Follow Me Activity Book, which is currently on sale for $11.99 for only $8.39! Homecoming Talk Two Years Too Early

Today's strip is a continuation of the strip featured last week. I don't know if this was unique to me or if other missionaries were prone to do it, but at the beginning of my service in Slovenia I would narrate in my head all the things I was going to include in my homecoming talk. This probably continued for about a month or two where I sketched out time and again the content of my homecoming talk.

The problem I faced, like Elder Van Dyke, is I didn't have any conclusions to my stories. So I ultimately abandoned my exercise until about the night before I spoke to my home ward roughly 22 months later. (Of course, by abandoning the practice of viewing every event that took place around me as potential material for a sermon, I became a much better missionary.)

Trials Bring Forth Great Homecoming Talk Material

Here's one at the beginning of Elder Van Dyke's mission. For a greenie, he's spending too much time planning his homecoming talk.

Please check back on this page later today for my General Conference recap.

Greenies are the best in the mission field, aren't they?

(Check out another strip here.)
