Family Home Evening is on Me This Week

Here's a fun General Conference recap you can print off and use for Family Home Evening.

And remember for lots more activities, puzzles, and mazes; my books The Puzzle Book for LDS Kids and The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon are available in finer LDS bookstores everywhere.

Win a Copy of The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon

Right now there are a couple of places on the web where you can win a free copy of The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon. First, you can enter a give away at Mormon Mommy Blog, but you might end up with another prize (like a women's dress--not cool for our male readers). Or you could enter at LDS author Nichole Giles' blog.

Personally, I'd enter at Nichole's blog as your odds seem better (and there's no chance you'll end up with a back razor), plus, the book is autographed. But you'd better hurry. The deadline for the Mormon Mommy Blog is midnight tonight and it's Wednesday night for Nichole's blog.

Another Post on The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon

I love my publishers at Walnut Springs. It's through them that I've achieved a lifelong dream of seeing my work on the shelves of bookstores.

That being said, in every creative endeavor there will be artistic disagreements. It hasn't happened much as Walnut Springs has been very supportive of my work, but we did run into an impasse while discussing the cover for the recently published A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon (available here and here).

Ultimately, we settled on the cover my publishers wanted to use, but I still think mine was better (see below).

Samson!

I've got a lot to talk about today.
  • The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon is now on shelves at Deseret Book and available to order at deseretbook.com and amazon.com.
  • A couple of weeks ago my brother and president of my Facebook fan club requested that I draw him into one of my comics. In order to qualify for such an honor(?) you have to meet certain qualifications (namely, you have to be my brother and president of my Facebook fan club). Anyway, this is the week, Joel.
  • On a related note, I should point out to any single girls out there that Joel is still available (and he also just completed his second year of Medical School!).
  • Full disclosure, I also should point out that I slightly exaggerated Joel's physic. His legs aren't quite so toothpickish.
  • I reread the story of Samson while researching this week's comic, you gotta love the Old Testament. According to Judges chapter 15, Samson slew 1,000 Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey. With the number of dead solders lying around, you'd think Samson would have picked up something a bit more practical like, I don't know, a sword or something. I think the Bible Dictionary said it best when describing Samson: "He seems to have been a man notorious for his great physical strength, but weak in intellectual...character."
  • Finally, as a son of an anatomist, I feel it is my duty to point out that there are not one, but three bones inside the ear: the hammer, the anvil, and the stirrup.

Inside The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon

I thought I'd wet your appetite for the forthcoming A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon by giving you a peek of what you'll find inside. (You might want to click on the picture for a larger view.)

In this maze you're charged with getting Mormon and the gold plates to Moroni during the battle on Hill Cumorah. I can safely say that I've never drawn so many people in one picture before. If I ever had any aspirations of creating a Where's Waldo type book prior to now, this page certainly cooled me on those ideas. Still, I love how the page turned out and together with the other mazes in The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon it represent the most beautiful work I've ever done.

Coming Soon: The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon

Today I picked up my advanced copy of The A-MAZE-ing Book of Mormon from my publisher. The book includes 12 giant-sized mazes that spread over into two pages that takes the reader through the Book of Mormon. Here's the description of the book found on the back cover.
Race around the Book of Mormon with these mind-bending mazes!

Sail across stormy seas; speed through city streets; escape from lofty rooftops; maneuver through mists of darkness; scurry up and down ladders; dash past dangerous debris; climb through deep, dark jungles; sprint around battling soldiers; search for the king's lost sheep

How long will it take you to finish this incredible journey?
In my opinion, this is the best book of Book of Mormon mazes I've ever seen (it is also, coincidentally, the only book of Book of Mormon mazes I've ever seen). I'm giving you heads up now so you can start planning your next trip to Deseret Book.

And while I'm shamelessly self-promoting, I should note that Walmart recently began stockingThe Puzzle Book for LDS Kids in their LDS book section of their Intermountain West stores. And Seagull Book has recently picked up Mormon Life.
