Early Morning Seminary Pillow (er) Scripture Case

Nothing says back to school like a general lack of sleep. This gag from my long-since out of print Mormon Life* book includes two classic Mormonads featured in the New Era.** I'm pretty sure I included them in the gag when I first drew it hoping they would help ensure the New Era would purchase the joke. (It didn't work.)

*Even the name is dated.

Like a Child

Coming or Going

This might be the most sentimental gag I've ever drawn. I can't help it. We picked up my son at the airport last night! This morning after his flight got delayed, he slept at an airport, and the airline lost his luggage. (But at least he's home!)

Ammon's Homecoming Talk

I loved my mission. I loved everything about my mission, but when I'd hear stories of missionaries in my mission who were arrested and thrown into jail (on Thanksgiving day, none the less) or forced to evacuate their city because it was getting bombed; I'll admit I felt a little jealous.* Mostly because that meant those missionaries were going to have one heck of a story to slot into their homecoming address. Alma, Aaron, and Amulek all wish they had as good a story to share as Ammon.

*My biggest adventure came when I was hauled off a train, held in detention for a couple of hours, and then sent back out of the country I was trying to visit with a stamp in my passport barring me from ever returning. Ironically, I don't believe I even shared that story in my homecoming talk.

Perfect Body

If you've looked at my physique recently, you'd think I came to the same conclusion.

Sadly, I haven't.

Accountable

For years, I've fought comparisons to the chronically unfunny Family Circus. And yet, I've produced enough of these kids say the darndest things type gags that my protests are beginning to sound hollow. At least I haven't resorted to illustrating the "Not Me" ghost.

Touchdown!

There are very few thrills as exciting as the first, giddy days of teaching a new investigator. Especially, when the investigator responds to the message so enthusiastically. For a missionary in that moment, the possibilities are endless.
