There is an inherent risk in having teenage boys and girls share the gospel. And yet somehow it works.

Coach Speak
I modeled Elder Steele's coach with all his homespun bits of wisdom after the late Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. Today, his old team is getting ready to start the NBA Playoffs as the number one seed in the West with the best regular season record in the league. Go Jazz!

Coach Speak
I think I prefer this type of coach speak over the kind of coach that threatens to bite kneecaps. (But that could just be me.)
Remarkably, Cedar Fort keeps inviting me back to guest host their Come, Follow Me with David Ridges podcast. You can listen to my discussion on Doctrine and Covenants 6-9 here.

Coach Speak 2
Next week I'm moving on from this long, serialized story of Elder Van Dyke and his companion losing a promising investigator. Sadly, this was the kind of thing that happened to me with quite some regularity on my mission. I don't know if the storyline works in a humor strip, but it definitely works in a missionary memoir.

Coach Speak
Elder Steele--the companion featured in the past several weeks of this comic--is a football player. And he's always quoting his football coach. Usually, it's stuff like "you win some, you lose some" and "go out there and give 110 percent," but in this strip his coach's meaning is lost on everyone. My inspiration for this strip came from Jerry Sloan of the Utah Jazz who (as most fans of the team know) says stuff like this nearly every day. And his team is going to need every one of his confusing pearls of wisdom if they are going to defeat the hated LA Lakers in the playoff battle they currently find themselves in.
